History of the Show
About 27 years ago, an enthusiastic group of volunteers envisioned a community-based project that would become the Bet Am Shalom Judaica Craft Show, featuring the finest Judaica crafts and jewelry by selected artists from Israel and America. The goal was to bring the public the best in contemporary Judaica in all media and forms. The artists would be selected by an independent jury made up of individuals who would be respected by the artist.
The show quickly became an enormous success and has grown throughout the years both in size and reputation. The enormous commitment that is required to sustain the show has strong support from the Bet Am Shalom leadership, Rabbi Lester Bronstein and Cantor Benjie Ellen Schiller, and the more than 250 volunteers who mobilize to join the standing committee each year.
This year we are converting the show from a physical space to a virtual space, making every effort to retain what has been the essence and importance of the Craft Show experience: connection with the artists. To achieve this, you will find, on each artists’ page, a video of the artist introducing him or herself to you and speaking to what motivates their art. We will also offer live events where you can ‘visit’ the artist in studio and ask questions about the process or products of interest to you. We hope that you will learn something interesting, enjoy viewing all the beautiful pieces of art and, if you are able, decide to support an artist with a purchase.
We welcome you to the Virtual Bet Am Shalom Craft Show, and hope you find it as engaging as a visit to the show in our beautiful building.
